Let's Talk Week 1

After spending a month in quarantine with our parents, siblings, and pets; let’s be serious, we miss what life was like before COVID-19. Many of us were looking forward to the end of the school year, spring sports, and many other activities that make life enjoyable. Although these things have been put on pause for the time being; we have an amazing opportunity during this time to do things that we don’t normally get to do during our regular routine.

Are you learning a new language? Beginning a new instrument? How about working on your skills in the kitchen? Whatever you are doing with your time, I bet you’re incredibly productive right? For all I know you might actually be doing some of these things! But personally I feel like the hours in the day can sweep by faster now, more than ever before. I don’t even know the last time I took a shower! (Just kidding… yesterday… I think). All joking aside, what are you actually doing with all the time on your hands? Are you spending any of it on your relationship with God?

Yikes, the big question. For real though, we say that God is in control of this virus, we believe his hands are over our finances, and we know that every minute of our lives is a gift from him. Yet, how many of us struggle to be consistent in prayer, reading the Word, or even going to Youth Group? (for right now, watching our lessons online). Our past four devotionals have focused on Christ, his authority, and the power he brings to our lives. Since then, have you focused on giving Jesus the time he deserves? After all, he is our Savior! I don’t want to come across as saying you need to do this or that you should. Rather it is my prayer that we all begin to see Jesus for who he really is. We can do that through prayer and reading God’s Word.

If you don’t know where to even begin, talk to your parents, small group leader, or reach out to me. In times of uncertainty, there is one who is certain; the Lord. When we focus our attention on God, instead of the circumstances around us; we are able to find joy in the darkest of times. I have had the opportunity to reflect a ton during this pandemic, and I have prayed that God would give me a new perspective on my life and his authority over it. I really have come to the understanding that God doesn’t just want part of me, or some of my time, but that he wants all of it. I challenge you this weekend to give God a little more of your attention and time.

Thanks for reading.

With love and prayer, Murph.

Hosea 10:12:“Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you”.
